Whether you are considering a back to school study skills courses, private tutoring to boost confidence in a specific subject or host a small group workshop for you and some friends, HTA is here to help! All workshops can be offered in a large group (school sponsored), small group (rate based on size of group) or private setting ($60/hr).

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:
STUDY SKILLS COURSE: This popular course is designed to help students improve their study habits in the areas of organization, time management, note taking, reading comprehension, test preparation and also helps students understand their learning style. Parents and administrators in schools around Houston often state how important they feel this course was for helping their students transition well in High School. The standard course is 8 hours and customized courses range in length depending on specifications and applications. Course fee includes a student workbook.
If your student has already taken one of our study skills courses then you know how it can benefit him/her. Please tell a friend about the program and you’ll get a credit for a private session if they register.
INTENSIVE NOTE TAKING: The intensive note taking workshop is designed to help students take their note taking to new heights. Students will learn effective note taking tips and will understand how to take notes better from their lectures, textbook readings, literary works and for research. This is a fantastic extension to the study skills course. Middle school students build an incredible foundation for note taking and upper school students actually discover they find new helpful tips. Course fee includes student workbook.
ISEE/SSAT PREP: Students are starting to prepare for the 2010 ISEE exam. If you haven’t considered giving your student added confidence through private or small group ISEE prep, give HTA a call. The holidays are a great time to get additional practice hours in when they don’t have time during the school week. Our ISEE prep tutors will zero in on the weak areas and help students overcome their anxieties. Inquire online or by phone today.
WRITING WITH EASE: This 8-12 hour workshop will cover a variety of areas to help your student improve his/her writing skills. The student will be required to do some writing in between sessions. Topics that will be covered include - approaching the material, idea generation, essay writing and essay directives, leads, conclusions and transitions, conventions, proofreading, research and literary analysis. Upper Schools students will also prepare for essay writing on the SAT and for college application essays. Course fees include student workbook.
ADULT FRENCH and SPANISH WORKSHOPS/PRIVATE SESSIONS: The two week 5-day workshop is a great start to helping adults renew their love for a foreign language and get a jump start for a trip, every day communication, a brush up or as an evaluation for ongoing private sessions. The workshop will drill on the foundations of the language but will help adult students apply their knowledge in a fun and practical way while breaking down any fear they have of speaking the language. The introductory period of the course will focus on basic sentence structure, simple verb construction and drilling commonly used expressions, while the latter part of the course will cover more complex structure and every day practical uses of the language whether at home or when traveling. Foreign film viewing is incorporated into every session for improved listening skills.
Private Tutoring for specific disciplines or for any of the above workshops is available at the rate of $60/hr. The tutor can travel to your home or school. Workbook fees are additional for private session workshops.
